Overview
Patois Pal is built to respect your privacy. You don't need an account to use the app, and your learning progress stays on your device. The one feature that sends information off your device is the AI Translator, which is described below.
Data Collection
Patois Pal does not collect personal information such as your name, email address, or contacts, and no account is required. The only information that leaves your device is:
- The text you type into the AI Translator (and any AI conversation features), which is sent to our service so it can generate a response.
- A device identifier (Apple's Identifier for Vendor), sent to our server only to limit how many free AI requests can be made each day.
AI Translator
When you use the AI Translator or AI conversation features, the text you enter is sent — over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, through our own server hosted on Cloudflare — to a third-party AI provider, Anthropic, which generates the translation or reply. This text is used only to fulfill your request. It is not linked to your identity, is not used to build a profile of you, and is not used for advertising or tracking. We do not store your translations on our server. Anthropic may retain request data temporarily for safety and abuse-prevention purposes in line with its own policies.
Local Storage
All of your learning data — including your XP, streaks, daily goals, rank progress, and challenge history — is stored locally on your device. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us or any third party.
Third-Party Services
Patois Pal uses Anthropic to power the AI Translator, and Cloudflare to host the service that routes those requests. We do not use any advertising, analytics, or cross-app tracking services.
Children's Privacy
Patois Pal is rated 13+. It includes a lesson featuring Jamaican profanity ("Cuss Words") and other mature language, and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy is updated, the changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
